LIVERPOOL BEST PLACED TO BEAT BARCELONA TO RECORD-BREAKING ATTACKING TALENT
Liverpool are reportedly beating FC Barcelona to the signing of Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko, who is widely regarded as one of Europe's most exciting prospects.According to Sport, Xavi Hernandez's side has set their sights on Moukoko, whose contract with Dortmund expires in 2023, with the German club doing little to tie the forward down to a new long-term deal. Liverpool, on the other hand, are 'best placed' to sign the 17-year-old.
According to the report, Jurgen Klopp's influence and Liverpool's recent streak of playing teenagers, such as Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvahlo, will give the Reds an advantage in the race to sign Moukoko, who has smashed numerous records with Dortmund over the past two years. The attacker is the youngest Bundesliga player ever, as well as the league's youngest scorer. Moukoko is also the youngest player ever to play in the UEFA Champions League, and the forward is a regular for Dortmund this season. The versatile attacker has already scored four goals and provided five assists in all competitions for Edin Terzic's side, but with Moukoko's contract set to expire in just over eight months, Dortmund are running out of time to lock down one of their star assets.
Indeed, while Liverpool may lead the race to sign Moukoko, there's a good chance the German youth international will extend his contract with Dortmund given how ideal the Bundesliga club is for the attacker's development in the coming years.Although Moukoko fits the bill for what the Reds have done in the market in recent seasons, the attacker is still too young and raw to make the step to the Premier League.
While Moukoko will undoubtedly develop into a world-class striker in the coming years, Liverpool would be wise to make a move for the attacker when he is more developed and ready to play top-flight football in England, with Dortmund the ideal club for the youngster to hone his craft.
