In spite of captain Harry Maguire still being a member of the team, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag may have already guaranteed Bruno Fernandes the position. The playmaker has stepped up and taken the armband in place of the injured England player, and after what is thought to have been a private meeting with the Dutch coach, he may be set to keep it permanently.

When Ten Hag took over at the start of the summer, there were cries for him to fire Maguire as captain, but he resisted the urge and openly supported the center-back. However, due to injuries and a lack of performance, the captain has been relegated to the bench. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are preferred in the center of the defense, and Victor Lindelof may replace Harry Maguire because the Frenchman is unsure whether he will play before the World Cup due to an injury he sustained against Chelsea.

However, after speaking with Ten Hag, former United striker Dwight Yorke thinks that Fernandes has already been promised the captaincy moving forward. "Prior to it, he [Fernandes] served as the temporary captain, this wasn't an issue," Yorke informed Lord Ping.

Looking at the Maguire situation from the outside in and without knowing all the specifics, I believe he has been informed that he will serve as captain moving forward. When a manager says something along those lines, the burden is lifted.

Plans for Man Utd's upcoming three acquisitions are damaging for Solskjaer.

Therefore, he is now contemplating his new role. This clarity benefits the team and frees him up to carry out his duties. With Maguire still at the club, I wouldn't anticipate this to be an official announcement this season, but maybe the manager has spoken with him and that has given him the playing confidence he required.

Maguire was not performing well, therefore it needed to be decided in preseason whether he would continue to be the captain of the locker room or if Cristiano Ronaldo would take over. Ten Hag and the 37-year-old have now developed a tense relationship as a result of Ten Hag's refusal to leave the bench against Tottenham and his decision to leave the field prior to the end of the game.

If the Portuguese striker had been handed the starting nod in the summer, according to Yorke, the scenario might have been avoided.

Yorke continued, "I think United should have made him the captain." "You give him the armband and ask him to lead the team before leaving the club. He had one year left on his contract.

"I believe that all of the current drama could have been avoided, and I also believe that Maguire and Ronaldo could have reached an understanding for this season. You don't have to be best friends with your teammates in football clubs.
