Lionel Messi bags another Champions League award
Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain received yet another piece of silverware from UEFA on Thursday.
The name of Argentina's Messi, of course, was once again front and center in the headlines earlier this week.
This came as PSG made their return to continental action, taking on Israeli club Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League.
The Ligue 1 champions showed no mercy at the Parc des Princes, scoring seven goals to advance to the knockout stages of European football's premier club competition. And, unsurprisingly, Messi was the star of the show for the entire 90-minute period.
After directly contributing to all three of PSG's goals over the weekend, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner added two goals and two assists against Maccabi.
And it has since been revealed that Messi's first goal of the night on Tuesday was enough to earn him yet another individual award.
According to an official statement shared on UEFA's social media platforms, the 35-year-old has won the award for Champions League Goal of the Week.Recognition of Messi's strike comes after the legendary attacker picked out the far corner courtesy of a sumptuous outside-of-the-boot effort with his trusty left foot, beating out the likes of Kai Havertz and Matteo Guendouzi:
