Sergio Ramos 'will be included in Spain's provisional 55-man squad'
PSG defender Sergio Ramos may have a chance to play in the Qatar World Cup after reports in Spain suggested he was in line for a spot in Luis Enrique's provisional squad of 55.
According to Spanish newspaper Diario AS, the former Spain captain will be given the opportunity to prove to the ex-Barcelona manager that he still has what it takes to compete on the international stage.
Ramos has not played since March 2021, but he holds the record for most La Roja appearances with 180.Sergio Ramos, the all-time leader in appearances, could be added to Luis Enrique's 55-man roster.
The provisional squad will be announced on Friday, October 28, with reports indicating that the 36-year-old will be a surprise inclusion.
Ramos, who was once considered the most important player on the national team, has fallen further and further down the pecking order.
And his absence has hardly been felt, with Pau Torres emerging as one of his country's strongest defenders, alongside Manchester City's Aymeric Laporte.The former captain was a member of his country's golden era, which won the World Cup in 2010.
Enrique plans to name a 55-person shortlist before narrowing it down to 26 by November 11th.
However, while Ramos may make a sensational return to the international team, Ansu Fati may miss out.Ramos hasn't played for Spain since joining PSG in the summer of 2021.
Fati, 19, emerged two seasons ago as the latest in a line of 'new Messis' to emerge from Barcelona, but proved to be a mercurial talent, scoring 22 goals and assisting nine in 74 appearances for the club.
Borja Iglesias, Alejandro Balde of Barcelona, and Nico Williams are also thought to be contenders for a spot on the long list.
Williams, 20, has been one of LaLiga's surprise packages this season, playing a key role in Athletic Bilbao's unlikely bid for Champions League football next season.
