Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Akwasi Agyemang has disclosed that the team representing Ghana at the FIFA world cup 2022 will not be receiving winning bonuses.
?Mr. Akwasi Agyemang, Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee has revealed that winning bonuses for the senior national team of Ghana at the Qatar 2022 FIFA world cup has been removed.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based radio station, Haapy FM disclosed that the leadership of the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports have decided together with the Black Stars playing body to scrap the usual winning bonus but rather pay a qualifying bonus in every competition.
Akwasi Agyemang also added that the current Black Stars Management has been in talks with the boys convincing them to accept the qualifying bonus other than the winning bonus.
"We went into series of meetings with the football playing body and an agreement of qualifying bonus have been reached. The players agreed because we took a lead from our predecessors", Akwasi Agyemang.
"The players were told that the money was not coming from us[Management Committee] but the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Finance".
"The team are aware of their entitlement but funding is the problem, whi is why the President Nana Akufo-Addo organized a fundraising event to solicit for funds from the corporate world.
The players at their last World Cup appearance in 2014 recieved $10,000 as winning bonuses before it was reduced to $5000 at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Ghanaian team has been grouped with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in the World's biggest football platform expected to be held in Qatar in a few weeks.
Preparing for the tournament, the Black Stars have played friendly matches with Brazil, Nicaragua and will play Switzerland before the tournament begins.
