Legendary Ghanaian football striker, Asamoah Gyan has ruled himself out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, indicating that he is not ready now. "I am not ready now"
The former Sunderland player and legendary Ghanaian striker accepted in an interview with EIB that his current physical condition is not fit for competitive football and that he will not push himself into the debate over who should make the final list of the players representing Ghana at the World's biggest football tournament.
Asamoah Gyan however admitted that it will have been a dream come true to play his fourth World cup but he is aware of his physical conditions which isn't best for competitive football.
The African record goal scorer added that he will be ready to assist with the team on every facet should the Ghana Football Association asks for his assistance.
"The World Cup is every footballer's dream. If I'm fit to play active football and I am invited to play for the national team, why not. It is not like fifteen years ago when I was young and competitive and could argue to be in the starting line-up.
This is a different thing altogether. Right now people want you to go and show your experience. The thing is you just have to be physically fit, active and be ready for competitive football. If I am fit and invited into the national team, why not? Every footballer will embrace such opportunity. Mine is the case when I am not ready now. If I am not ready but the Ghana Football Association and staff feels they need me now, I will be available. That one is up to them ", he said.
The Ghanaian striker was speaking at the back of an interview granted the BBC weeks ago, where he was quoted to have said he would love to have a last dance at the World's biggest football stage.
Asamoah Gyan in his three appearances at the World Cup scored six goals, making him the top African goalscorer at the tournament.
