The Moto G Play has been one of Motorolas most popular budget range offerings over the years. The brand launched its most recent iteration back in January 2021. Now, it appears that the company plans on releasing a new Moto G Play before the end of 2022, as a recent report has leaked renders and details of the upcoming smartphone.

Tipster Evan Blass in collaboration with 91mobiles has shared renders and specifications of the upcoming Moto G Play (2022). Looking at the design, there are a few significant changes compared to the last generation, as the 2022 model features a redesigned camera island placed in the top left corner of the device instead of the middle. The camera island has three vertically aligned cutouts.

Perhaps the most notable change is the jump from a water-drop notch to a centred punch-hole, making the display look much better. However, the display retains a prominent forehead and a massive chin bezel.
Coming to the specifications, the report mentions that the new device will sport a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with 720 x 1600 resolution. The camera system on the device will include a 16MP primary shooter, a 2MP macro shooter, and a 2MP depth sensor. As for selfies and video calls, the phone will feature a 5MP front camera.
Under the hood, the device will feature a MediaTek Helio G37 chipset with onboard the IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The chipset will be complemented by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. A 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging support will supply power to the device.
It will be interesting to see if the company opts for a full version of Android on this device or ships it with Android GO Edition OS. This will likely be revealed as we get closer to the launch of the device, so stay tuned.
