Rebellion Group of 95': Mahama's description of anti-Ofori-Atta NPP MPs.

Former President John Dramani Mahama referred to the New Patriotic Party lawmakers demanding the immediate dismissal of Finance Minister Ken Ofor-Atta and Minister of State for Finance Charles Adu Boahen as "the Group of 95."

The NPP MPs held a press conference on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, and stated that the dismissal of Ken Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen would restore public confidence in the economy.

Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, the spokesperson for the MPs known as the "backbenchers," stated that if the president does not heed their call, they will not do business with the government or support the 2023 Budget.

"We have had occasions to defend allegations of conflicts of interest, lack of confidence, and trust against the leadership of the Finance Ministry.

"The recent development within the economy is of major concern to our caucus and our constituents. We have made our grave concern to our president through the parliamentary leadership and the leadership of the party without and positive response," Andy Appiah Kubi said.

Speaking at a gathering dubbed ""Building the Ghana We Desire," the former president urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not only to replace his cousin, the finance minister, but also to reconstitute and take control of the Economic Management Team, EMT. I have taken note of the Minority's recent draft motion of censure against the Minister, as well as the recent rebellion of the Group of 95 Majority members calling for the Minister's removal.

"I've also taken note of the Majority Leader's announcement of a compromise reached in which the Minister will leave after completing the budget and IMF negotiations.

"I think this is untenable," John Dramani Mahama observed.

"Budget preparation and IMF negotiations are the results of teamwork, not the work of one individual," he continued. I don't see how the Minister's absence will affect budget preparation or negotiations with the Fund."

"There must be people with the necessary experience to carry out this work." After all, what happened to the "We have the men" mantra? "Our debt restructuring must include both domestic and external debt," Mahama emphasized.
