Ken Ofori-Atta will be fired by December 31, 2022, according to the leader of the 'Ken Must Go' bloc.

Andy Appiah Kubi, Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, has revealed that an inner caucus group of governing New Patriotic Party lawmakers, of which he is a leader, expects embattled Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to be removed by December 31, 2022.

He confirmed that the group of more than 80 MPs attended a meeting where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo asked them to postpone a request for Ofori-removal Atta's until two critical issues were resolved.

In an interview with Accra-based 3FM, he stated that they believe Ofori-Atta will complete Phase One of his International Monetary Fund responsibilities next week and that his work on the budget and appropriation will conclude by December of this year, after which he will leave.

“…personally, I understood the president to be saying that when the matters come to a close he would do our bidding. The whole IMF programme will end in April but the first phase, which is necessary for our budgetary preparations will end next week.

“The understanding is that the end of the first phase and the conclusion of appropriation, which is December, our understanding is that at that place, he will effectuate our request and indeed give and take, the maximum he can run up to is in December before Christmas.

"So, we condition our minds that, all else being equal, we expect that to happen by December 31st, 2022," he added.

In an October 25, 2022 press conference, the so-called 'Ofori-Atta Must Go' bloc demanded that the Finance Minister be fired immediately due to the current economic downturn.

Their meeting with the president, however, resulted in an agreement in which Ofori-Atta completes first-stage talks with the International Monetary Fund and oversees the presentation of the 2023 budget and its appropriation before being removed.

The first phase of the IMF program will end next week; does this mean that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will be fired around that time, or when it ends in April?
