ENGLISH CLUBS EYE BARCELONA TALENT YEARS AFTER COLLAPSED LIVERPOOL MOVE

Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in signing FC Barcelona's Alejandro Balde, whom Liverpool were close to signing in 2019 when the youngster was still an undiscovered gem at La Masia.

According to Sport, the now-19-year-old defender is on the radar of many top English clubs following a stellar start to the season, with Balde establishing himself as Barcelona's starting left-back ahead of Marco Alonso and Jordi Alba.

With a contract expiring in 2024, Premier League clubs are now eyeing a move for Balde, and while it hasn't been stated, there's a strong chance that Liverpool could be in the mix given the Reds' previous interest in the defender.Back in 2019, Sport reported that Liverpool were not only interested in Balde, but that a deal was on the verge of being completed, with the defender's bags packed in preparation for a move to Merseyside and the Premier League. However, as we all know, no such move ever took place because a transfer appeared to fall through behind the scenes. And now, in 2022, Balde could be heading to the Premier League after establishing himself as one of Europe's best young fullbacks and, despite his youth, one of Barcelona's most consistent performers.

Given Andy Robertson's agent and Konstantinos Tsimikas' limited potential, Liverpool could be tempted to sign Balde in January. However, with Premier League rivals also interested and Barcelona eager to tie the defender down to a new contract, the Reds face numerous obstacles.Balde's meteoric rise with Barcelona this season has been nothing short of spectacular, with the youngster dethroning Alba as the club's starting left-back after more than a decade. Nonetheless, despite Premier League interest, the defender should stay in Catalonia.

After all, Xavi Hernandez is creating something special with players like Gavi, Ansu Fati, and Pedri, and with Balde another exciting young talent, the fullback should look to become a part of Barcelona's future rather than moving to the Premier League.
