Lapaz trotro drivers and friends allegedly beat a man to death over a GH2 transportation fare increase.

In the midst of the current economic crisis, a middle-aged man reportedly died in a brawl that erupted after a disagreement over a GH2 transport fare on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

According to Antwi Edmond, a Twitter user, a disgruntled passenger continued to complain in a commercial bus after being told his fare had increased by GH2.

Antwi Edmond reports that, enraged by the man's lamentation in the car, the driver of the vehicle returned to the bus terminal halfway through the journey.

However, the deceased is said to have refused to get off the bus because he was still angry. The situation is said to have resulted in a fight between the passenger, the driver, and his conductor, who ganged up on him.

"The driver returned his car to the Lapaz bus terminal, where they had the support of their coworkers. We were all asked to get off the bus, but the man causing the chaos insisted on not getting off." When persuasion failed, force was used.

"During the force applied by the trotro mates at the station, the man decided to fight them back, which led to a huge fight between him and our bus conductor and his mate with a backing of their co-workers after several minutes of fight, this male passenger died," an eyewitness with the Twitter handle @Murphy Vainn wrote in a thread.

"He lost his life after one unnoticed [SIC] punch, which caused his head to hit one of the terminal's pavements and cause him to lose his precious life." May his soul find eternal peace. I can't believe he sacrificed his life for a [SIC] 2 cedis increase.

A portion of the videos shared by the eyewitness shows the deceased's lifeless body being carried into a taxi to be transported to a hospital.

Transportation companies across the country have announced an increase in transportation fares that will take effect on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

While the Ghana Private Road Transport Union announced a 19% raise, the Concerned Drivers Association estimated a 30% raise.

This is amidst the current economic hardship which has seen a rise in inflation affecting the prices of goods and services.

The Massive increment in the Price caused Brouhaha in our vehicle, so a Male passenger who couldn’t stop talking after everyone was calm at some point, kept annoying the driver and his mate,to the extent the driver had 2 stop at Mile 7 rasta park area and return to de terminal.
