TOP GUN: MAVERICK MOVIE

Top Gun: Maverick

Maverick (Tom Cruise) is still pushing the edge as a top naval pilot after thirty years, but he must confront demons of his past as he takes TOP GUN's elite grads on a mission that requires the ultimate sacrifice from those chosen to fly it.
It's the late 2010s, 30 years after the first Top Gun film, and Pete Mitchell is a perennial captain... a highly decorated fighter pilot towards the end of his career who "can't get promoted, won't retire, and refuses to die," in the words of an enraged admiral whom Maverick challenges. The only reason he hasn't been kicked out of the Navy is because of his buddy and protector, four-star Admiral Thomas "Iceman" Kazansky (Val Kilmer reprising his character from the original "Top Gun" film), who is CINCPAC, commanding all naval forces in the Pacific region. As the film proceeds, weConsider Maverick to be an amazing pilot who doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut or his head down... and yet each time he falls into a bucket of crap, he comes out smelling like a rose.Iceman's timely intervention saves Maverick from being grounded and driven out once more, and reassigns him to an instructor post at the Navy's "Top Gun" school, which is held at NAS North Island in the film. When Maverick returns to San Diego, he bumps into an old flame, Penny Benjamin (played superbly by Jennifer Connelly), a figure mentioned but not seen in the previous film. Clearly, the two have had an on-again, off-again romance throughout the years, but it has never worked out. Nonetheless, they stay fond of one another. Because of Maverick's absence-

mindedness, as well as Penny's perplexing attraction with him Maverick is thrown out of the pub just as the pilots selected for a covert mission begin to arrive, including the son of Maverick's previous RIO (Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, played by Anthony Edwards), who died in the first film. There appears to be some history between Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw and Maverick; we later learn that, at the behest of his mother (Goose's widow), Maverick terminates Bradshaw's admission to the Naval Academy, delaying his career by several years. As Maverick gets down and sakes  his self,
He washes the sand from his clothing as he hears Rooster break into "Great Balls of Fire!" inside the pub, and his smile eventually fades as he thinks of his deceased buddy and his failed connection with his deceased friend's kid. Penny Benjamin notices this outside the pub, looks at Rooster on the piano, and knows Maverick's pain because of her acquaintance with his life... and then is regretful for having him dismissed ignominiously. And so Act 1 concludes, setting the stage for the conflict between Penny's feelings for Maverick and her distrust of him, his feelings for her and the conflict between choosing her or his career, and the conflict between Maverick and Rooster, who resents Maverick's interference without understanding that Maverick is resenting Rooster's interference.

vowed to Rooster's dying widow that he would not let Rooster to suffer the same fate as his father There's also the struggle between Maverick and the US Navy, which would have long since expelled the virus of a skilled, instinctive, and natural pilot who lacks discipline and cannot be relied on to obey the simplest and most direct commands if he disagrees with them.
