Reports emanating from the corridors of the Ghana Football Association reveals that officials of the football governing body reached out the right-back of Bayer Leverkusen who has been impressive in form in recent times, but Jeremie Frimpong turned down their offer and opted to play for the Dutch national team.
The 21-year old was born in Amsterdam and has a Ghanaian background matrilineally. When Jeremie turned seven, he and his family moved to England. This move makes him eligible to represent the Netherlands, England and Ghana national teams.
Jeremie, on the other hand, has always been part of the Netherlands junior teams, featuring for their U19, U20 and U21 side.
Jeremie Frimpong was set to make his first appearance at the senior national team of Netherlands in March 2022, but a syndesmotic ligament tear barred him from reaching that goal.
Reports emerging from football space of Netherlands are that, Loius Van Gaal has been shortlisted to the World Cup provisional squad and will make the final list if he is impressive consistently and performs well.
Foreign-born players with Ghanaian descent including Tariq Lamptey, Inaki Williams and a host of other top players have switched their nationalities to join the senior national team of Ghana at the World Cup in Qatar.
Other players like Eddie Nketia, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Nico Williams and other players with Ghanaian descent but were born elsewhere are yet to decide on their fate in national football as they mull over switching nationalities.
