Real Madrid manager breaks Sir Alex Ferguson’s record
Real Madrid defeated Celtic 5-1 to finish first in their Champions League group. Los Blancos outplayed their opponents in the second half, thanks to two early penalties that calmed any nerves. The Scottish fans did have a fantastic free-kick from Jota to cheer for, as the visitors got a late consolation.
It may have been just another win for Real Madrid, who were heavy favorites entering the game, but it was a significant one for Carlo Ancelotti and his legacy as one of the greatest managers of all time.Despite his brilliant successes at clubs such as Real Madrid, AC Milan, Chelsea, PSG, and others, he has not always received the respect he deserves. However, records cannot be argued with. And Ancelotti's 5-1 victory was his 103rd in the UEFA Champions League, surpassing Sir Alex Ferguson, who has 102 victories in Europe's top competition.
Of course, there is some debate about this, as one of those 103 victories was awarded by UEFA in the 2004-05 derby against Inter Milan, when opposing fans threw fireworks onto the field and forced the game to be stopped. However, a victory is a victory in the books.
Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, breaks Ferguson's Champions League record. It goes without saying that this is a tremendous accomplishment for Ancelotti, and one that he should be extremely proud of.
No other manager has won more Champions League games than him. Consider the amount of space that would occupy.
Even though he may not have received the recognition he deserves, the Italian is unquestionably one of the best managers of all time. His second stint at Real Madrid, on the other hand, has been a bit of a celebration of his abilities. May it continue indefinitely.
