UEFA Champions League: Kylian Mbappe scores as Paris Saint Germain beat Juventus by 2-1

PSG came into the game believing they needed to win to secure first place in Group H, having started the day level on points but ahead on goal difference over Benfica, who were playing Maccabi Haifa at the same time.

PSG appeared to be on track to win the group after goals from Mbappe and Nuno Mendes, but Benfica defeated Haifa 6-1 to stay level on points and pass them on goal difference to advance as group winner on overall away goals scored.

Mbappe scored an exquisite early goal to start proceedings, as he has done throughout his Champions League career. After receiving the ball from Lionel Messi, the France international ghosted his defender, cut to his right, and unleashed an unstoppable shot.Juventus, who had already been eliminated from the last 16, were unfazed by Mbappe's moment of brilliance and put pressure on the PSG backline in the minutes following the opener, with Manuel Locatelli and Juan Cuadrado both narrowly missing long-range efforts.

For the first time, Juventus lost five of their six Champions League group stage matches.

Prior to this season, they had only ever lost five games in a single Champions League season, in 2002-03, when they lost one game in the first group stage, three in the second, and one of their semifinal legs.
