Next three Man City fixtures present Pep Guardiola with team selection dilemma
The World Cup is only two weeks away, but Manchester City's international stars have three important games to prepare for before then.
City will play three games at the Etihad Stadium over the next eight days, which will help determine what kind of season they will have when the club season resumes in late December.
Pep Guardiola's side face Premier League high-flyers Fulham on Saturday before facing Chelsea in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday. The Blues' pre-World Cup schedule will be completed less than 72 hours later with a match against Brentford. All three opponents will present City with unique challenges that will require them to be at or near their peak in order to overcome, but Guardiola will need to strike a balance between the need to win and squad management. The manager rested a number of key players in the midweek Champions League defeat of Sevilla, so City's starting lineup against Fulham appears to be the most predictable. Kevin de Bruyne, Joao Cancelo, and Bernardo Silva are all expected to start, as is Erling Haaland if he has recovered from the foot injury that has kept him out of the last two games for City.
The focus will then shift to Chelsea. While Graham Potter's side appears to be stronger on paper than City's other two upcoming opponents, the match being sandwiched between two important league games may force Guardiola to rotate his squad.
