REASONS FOR RONALDO WEARING THE ARMBAND IN VILLA PARK

In their match against Aston Villa at 14:00 GMT, Manchester United will be captained by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Harry Maguire, the team's captain, is on the bench, and Bruno Fernandes is unable to play because of a one-match suspension he received for receiving five bookings in the Premier League this season.

There were many candidates for the position, but manager Erik ten Hag chose the experienced center-forward from Portugal.

The boss told MUTV, "We have more leaders. However, Bruno Fernandes is currently suspended and unable to participate, therefore you choose a player with leadership qualities since Harry Maguire is now on the bench. The goalie is frequently removed from action and exerts less control, particularly in the opponent's half, which is where we want to play. We went to Cristiano because Casemiro couldn't speak the complete English language. He's been doing well the last two games; he needs to lead by example and keep the process continuing.

In a separate Premier League interview, Ten Hag stated, "Nothing changed, and also when you are captain, a leader, you have to set the example, and that's what I want from him on the pitch. "He is therefore a crucial member of our team; we have stated as much since the beginning of the campaign and will continue to do so; we are pleased with him, and he now has to assume an even greater leadership position. Bruno is suspended, so he's not available, and Harry is sitting on the bench. He must take responsibility together with other leaders like Casemiro and David De Gea."

Ronaldo will try to lead from the front as United looks for three crucial points in the race for a top-four spot. He first captained the Reds back in 2008 against Bolton Wanderers.

While Ralf Rangnick served as interim leader, he did wear the armband, but this is the first time he has done so under Ten Hag.

Our final league match before the World Cup finals is against Villa; the next is against Fulham at Craven Cottage the following Sunday.

Rashford, van de Beek, Garnacho, Lindelof, Dalot, Martinez, Shaw, Casemiro, Eriksen, and Ronaldo are the United players (c).

Dubravka, Maguire, Malacia, Fred, McTominay, Pellistri, Elanga, Martial, and Shoretire are available as replacements.
