‘FOOTBALL LEGEND’: LIVERPOOL’S ARTHUR MELO REACTS TO GERARD PIQUE’S FINAL BARCELONA GAME
On-loan Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo called Gerard Pique a "football legend" on Instagram after he played his final game for Barcelona in Saturday's 2-0 win over Almeria in La Liga.
The 35-year-old has decided to hang up his boots, nearly two decades after the fresh-faced teenager made his debut for Manchester United, with the no-nonsense Roy Keane as captain and the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in the Old Trafford dugout.
Choose your poison. Pique has won everything. From Champions League glory with Barcelona, where he formed an outstanding partnership at the heart of Catalonia's defense with the all-action Carlos Puyol. To also becoming world champions for his beloved Spain, where he formed a fearsome partnership with club rival Sergio Ramos.
Arthur Melo, Liverpool's summer signing who is currently out with a long-term injury, would have seen Pique firsthand during his time at the Nou Camp.
And when the retired center-back was emotional on the field after saying goodbye to his fans, Arthur Melo texted him this message.
"It was an honor to play alongside you and meet football legend Pique," Arthur Melo said. "More than that, Gerard, it was a privilege to meet the human.""Thank you for all of your advice and for being there for me when I needed it the most. I wish you all the best today and always."
PIQUE IS ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREATS.
Things didn't go well for Pique at Old Trafford, but he picked himself up and let his football do the talking in spectacular fashion.
One of his former teammates, Xavi, has decided to retire from football due to the pressures of the sidelines, but it does not appear that Pique will follow suit.
Instead, he could push to be Barcelona's 'president' one day and make the bigger and more important decisions at the top of the tree, according to ESPN.
