Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Marcus Thuram from Borussia Monchengladbach in January, and the Frenchman could be Unai Emery's own version of Robert Lewandowski at Villa Park.

According to Italian media, Villa, Crystal Palace, and Arsenal are all interested in signing the 25-year-old after his recent impressive performances in the Bundesliga.

The French striker struggled with injuries last season but has returned to the side with a devastating impact, scoring nine goals and assisting three more in just 14 Bundesliga appearances this season.Thuram could be available for as little as £10 million due to his contract expiring in the summer of 2023, according to The Athletic, implying that Villa could entice him away for a similar - or even lower - fee in January.

Emery's team would also be able to approach the striker on a pre-contract agreement with the intention of signing him on a free transfer next summer, which, given his excellent form this season, could prove to be a huge coup for Emery.

The Frenchman's incredible 7.42 average rating from WhoScored is far higher than anyone else in the Villa squad, emphasizing the quality that he could bring to Emery's team.Thuram's electric performances have earned him the label "world-class" by Wolfsburg's sporting director Marcel Schäfer, and he is statistically very similar to Lewandowski, so he could be a fantastic addition at Villa Park.

According to FBRef, the legendary Polish striker is the second-most similar player to Thuram in Europe's top league, which is a fair comparison given his ridiculous goalscoring form with Bayern Munich and Barcelona over the last decade. This season, the two strikers have had very similar stats in terms of shots on goal (both 28), goal-creating actions (both seven), and dribble success rate (51.2% vs 50%).

According to WhoScored, both Lewandowski and Thuram excel at finishing and dribbling, making them both clearly dangerous players in the final third capable of scoring and creating chances for teammates.

Emery would be foolish to turn down such an in-form player who is statistically comparable to one of the best strikers on the planet, especially given that he could be available for a bargain in January, so the Spaniard should definitely consider bringing Thuram to Villa Park.
