Petit began his career at ES Arques-la-Bataille before joining Arsčne Wenger's Monaco team at the age of 18. Soon after, he made his debut and appeared in the 1989 Coupe de France final.
Petit established himself as a regular for Monaco, playing as a left-sided or central midfielder. He won the Coupe de France with Monaco in 1991 and also appeared in the European Cup Winners' Cup final in 1992. In his final season at Monaco, 1996-97, he captained his team to the Ligue 1 title.
Petit joined Arsenal in June 1997 for Ł2.5 million, rejoining former Monaco manager Arsčne Wenger. Wenger moved Petit from central to defensive midfield, pairing him with fellow Frenchman Patrick Vieira.
The French duo formed a midfield partnership that brought instant success, as Petit won the Premier League title and the FA Cup in his first season with Arsenal. Petit made 118 appearances for Arsenal and scored 11 goals, including a stunning drive from outside the area against Derby County (which was also the winning goal) during the 1997-98 season, before leaving for Barcelona.

World Cup: Messi remains cautious in the face of the enthusiasm of the Argentinians
With more than a week until the start of the World Cup, Lionel Messi urged Argentina to be cautious about Albiceleste's title chances. Albiceleste won the last Copa America and is considered one of the favorites for the crowning in Qatar.
"We will fight for it (the title), but we are not guaranteed to be champions from the start, as the Argentines believe," the 35-year-old captain of the Argentine team told an Argentine sports newspaper.
"Thinking about the round of 16 is already a mistake; you must think about the first match." "It's critical to get off to a good start and win all three (group stage) games," Messi emphasized.
The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner leads a squad of 26 players, including Angel Di Maria and Paulo Dybala, who have returned from injury."We're going through a rough patch, but this group is prepared for the worst." He was formed after we lost to Brazil in the 2019 Copa America semi-finals. "From there, it generated what it generated," the Paris Saint-Germain player continued, referring to Argentina's 15th Copa America title in 2021.
Argentina, a two-time World Cup winner in the twentieth century, will begin their tournament on November 22 against Saudi Arabia, before facing Mexico on November 26 and Poland on November 29 in Group C.
