Several African players, including George Weah, Mohamed Salah, Didier Drogba, and Sadio Mane, have shone in the Premier League. There is no doubt that the African continent continues to produce talented footballers who will make their way into what is arguably the world's best football league.
In this article, I will highlight one African player who has scored the most goals in the Premier League since its inception in the 1800s.
Muhammad Salah
Mo Salah, dubbed the "African Messi," is one of the Premier League's most feared forwards. The Egyptian played for Chelsea from 2014 to 2016, but he is best known for his time at Liverpool, where he joined in 2017. With 206 goals in 207 games, the Egyptian has the most of any African player in the Premier League. Salah broke Didier Dgroba's record to become Africa's all-time leading scorer in 2021, when Liverpool thrashed Manchester United 5-0 at Old Trafford.
Sadio Mane No. 2
Despite shockingly leaving Liverpool last summer, Mane is unquestionably a Liverpool legend. Mane was a tireless runner who was also a prolific forward. He had a brief but successful stint at Southampton before moving on to Liverpool. At Anfield, he combined with Sala to form one of the premier league's most fearsome duos. In 2019, Sadio Mane was honored to be nominated for FIFA Player of the Year by Lionel Messi, though he did not win. But how many goals did the Senegalese legend score before leaving the Premier League last summer? Mane, on the other hand, has 369 caps and 153 goals in the Premier League.
Drogba
Drogba was less well-known when he arrived from Marseille in 2004, courtesy of Mourinhno, but he quickly became a household name in the Premier League. He played an important role in the Blues' four Premier League titles. Drogba, like the two mentioned above, was a fearsome striker who terrorized Premier League defenses, with Arsenal suffering the most. The Ivorian scored 124 goals in 309 EPL games.
