Real Madrid starter could make surprise transfer exit
Real Madrid has done an excellent job of extending the contracts of their star players and ensuring that they remain at the club for the foreseeable future, even if not all of the deals have been officially announced. However, one first-team starter's future at the Santiago Bernabeu appears to be in doubt.
Ferland Mendy joined Real Madrid from Lyon in the summer of 2019 for a fee believed to be around €53 million including add-ons. It's great to see him develop into a starter at the club after such a significant investment.
Mendy was a starter for the club during Zinedine Zidane's tenure as manager and has remained so.According to Marca, there is a feeling that Real Madrid is still evaluating his performances in order to make a decision on his future, whether to renew his contract or to sell him.
The future of Real Madrid's starter at the Santiago Bernabeu is in doubt.
Mendy was left out of the France national team's World Cup squad in Qatar. And this just goes to show that, while he is a starter for Real Madrid, he has flaws in his game.In the case of the Frenchman, the area of weakness is fairly obvious. While Mendy may be the best left-back on the planet when it comes to defense, he simply does not provide enough offensively.
Of course, Real Madrid's incredible attacking talent means that the club does not require much output from Mendy on that end of the field in the majority of games.
His fitness is also called into question. Mendy has missed numerous games due to injuries over the years.
