Football in the twenty-first century has become highly monetized, with football clubs spending enormous sums on players. Paris Saint-Germain holds the record for the highest fee ever paid for a player. The French Ligue 1 club paid €222 million to secure the signature of Neymar Jr from Barcelona.

Millions of dollars were spent on player transfers during the previous summer transfer window, resulting in football clubs having an expensive squad at their disposal. Manchester City's owners' investment has allowed them to field a starting XI worth Ł560 million this season.

Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias, Joo Cancelo, and Erling Haaland are among the players on the squad. Based on their current form, these players could fetch more than €100 million.

Paris Saint-Germain has the second most expensive starting XI. The French Ligue 1 club's starting XI is worth Ł439 million, which is not surprising given the presence of first-team regulars such as Achraf Hakimi, Neymar Jr, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe.Manchester United has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on player transfers over the last five years, but this has not resulted in on-field success. During the previous summer transfer window, they spent approximately €200 million on Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils' current starting lineup includes Marcus Rashford, Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial, Antony Santos, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Luke Shaw, and Diogo Dalot.

Leicester City face transfer battle as Real Madrid 'join the race' for midfielder

Leicestershire's most recent Leicester City transfer news Youri Tielemans has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have reportedly "joined the race" to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The 25-year-old has been a standout for City since joining on loan from Monaco in January 2019. In Jonny Evans' absence, the Belgian international has worn the captain's armband for Brendan Rodgers' side, guiding the club to a remarkable turnaround in form, and is currently preparing for the World Cup.Apart from his on-field performances, Tielemans has been the subject of constant speculation about his future since entering the final year of his contract with City. Several clubs have already been linked with the midfielder, with Real Madrid reportedly joining a growing list of potential suitors.

According to Sport, Carlo Ancelottti's side is "closely following" Tielemans' contract situation. According to the report, he was a target under former manager Zinedine Zidane and is seen as a "alternative" to Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham if the England international decides to leave next summer.Sport does admit that the reigning La Liga champions are far from the only team to have "noticed the quality" of the City player. Four English clubs, including Arsenal and Newcastle, are said to be challenging Real Madrid, as are the club's traditional rivals Barcelona and Juventus.

According to the report, Arsenal is currently leading the race to sign Tielemans, with "contacts" over a deal already made. The January transfer window may be City's last chance to cash in on the midfielder, who will also be able to sign a pre-contract with a team outside of England, but Rodgers hasn't given up hope of keeping him at the King Power Stadium."It's not something we're thinking about, and it's not something the club has said we need to do," Rodgers said when asked about selling Tielemans in January. "We certainly don't want to be offloading our best players."

"There has been no indication or hint that we need to generate money and move him on." But, of course, they will look into the club's business side."
