Real Madrid were not expected to make any additions in January, but one would hope that their slump before the World Cup break has convinced them that some additions, albeit minor ones, are required. Los Blancos simply lack the depth to compete in all three competitions, especially given the grueling schedule of this season due to the World Cup being in the middle of it.So, hopefully, Real Madrid will add to their squad in January, and it appears that they have set their sights on a Chelsea legend who was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer.
According to Futbol Total (via SPORT), Real Madrid is interested in signing César Azpilicueta in January and is willing to pay close to €10 million for the Spaniard.
Azpilicueta did sign a contract extension with Chelsea in the summer, but he has not been a regular in the Blues' first team this season.
Real Madrid is willing to make a January transfer offer for Chelsea hero.It will be fascinating to see if Chelsea are willing to let their captain leave the club in the middle of the season.
It may be especially difficult to persuade them given their season's up to this point.
Chelsea inexplicably decided to fire Thomas Tuchel just days after the summer transfer window closed and replaced him with Graham Potter. The former Brighton & Hove Albion man has had a difficult time, and the Blues entered the World Cup on a four-game losing streak. In such circumstances, it's difficult to imagine them willing to let Azpilicueta's experience go in January.
