Eighty-eight percent of Man Utd fans want Cristiano Ronaldo to stop playing for the team.

The entire summer, Cristiano Ronaldo made attempts to quit Manchester United.

His position now appears to be precarious after declaring that he does not "respect" Erik ten Hag in an interview with TalkTV. A serious suitor did not advance, and he remained at the club where he has scored three goals in 16 appearances this season.

The 37-year-old made several embarrassing admissions, including that he feels "betrayed" by the Premier League team and that "certain people" do not want him there, in addition to his remark regarding the United manager.

On August 16, Ronaldo suggested doing an interview, saying the "truth" would surface "in a couple of weeks."

United had lost their first two games against Brighton and Brentford when the former Real Madrid star posted on Instagram. He had to play catch-up after missing the club's preseason tour of Australia due to family obligations. He started neither.

Following his interview, The Athletic polled our Manchester United subscribers to get their opinions on Ronaldo. The results are a damning indictment of what he said.

More than 80% of those polled favor the club terminating his contract.

Think about that for a moment. After an emotional return to Old Trafford, Ronaldo scored 24 goals for United last season, making him one of the club's all-time greatest players. However, some fans have had enough.

More than 90% of people say he can't explain why he "feels betrayed" by United, a similar percentage thinks Ten Hag hasn't treated the forward unfairly, and 88% don't want him to make more appearances for United after his 341 already.

The survey had some notable findings, so let's dive right in.

Does Ronaldo's time at Manchester United end?

It is unlikely that Ronaldo would wear a United jersey again if the survey respondents from The Athletic had the final say.

It is quite evident from the most revealing string of remarks that his interview was not well received.

More than 93% of those polled think United should punish him for the remarks he made.

On Monday, the club issued a statement explaining its future course of action.

The statement states, "Manchester United notes the media coverage about an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo." After all of the facts are known, the club will think about its response.

When the World Cup concludes in December, the focus will soon shift to the January transfer window, and more than 94% of voters supported United's request to sell Ronaldo.

The problem, though, is that the bigger teams in the rest of Europe were uninterested in the summer, and his performances would not have changed their minds much. But just over 86% of respondents believe Ronaldo won't still be with the team after the transfer window closes.

The Athletic earlier reported that Ten Hag had informed the club's management that he was relieved to see Ronaldo leave because he believed it would make them better without the distractions that come with having one of the best players in football history around.

Nearly 85% of those polled believed that it would be wise for the club to terminate the 37-year-contract old's if they decide enough is enough and do not want to wait until January.
