Ronaldo has revealed to Manchester United supporters the truth about Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hired by Manchester United to "put smiles back on faces" after Jose Mourinho was fired in December 2018. That slogan quickly came to represent Solskjaer's time in charge and to sum up his leadership style at Old Trafford.
In the long run, 'keeping players happy' was never going to make up for Solskjaer's lack of tactical nous. He inherited a broken squad that was lacking in self-belief, and he restored confidence in the dressing room. Last season, Solskjaer was fortunate to survive the defeats before his dismissal after a 4-1 loss to Watford.
His lowest point came after the Liverpool disaster, but after that humiliation, he put on a lifeless effort against Manchester City. Although Solskjaer managed to survive those setbacks, it was clear that Bambi needed to be put to death as soon as possible.
Unusually, after being fired, Solskjaer sat down with the club media and bid his fans farewell. He was visibly moved by the occasion. For his playing career, Solskjaer will always be recognized as a legend, but he was unquestionably a subpar manager.
At Old Trafford, Solskjaer's relationship with his players was both his greatest strength and weakness. He placed too much emphasis on those connections and paid insufficient attention to the tactical development of his team.
The most damning criticism a manager can receive in the professional game comes from David de Gea, who said after Solskjaer's final game at Vicarage Road that United "don't know what to do with the ball" or "how to defend properly."
Despite his legendary status, fans unanimously agreed that it was time for Solskjaer to leave the team. However, since then, there has been a great deal of revisionism surrounding his tenure, which conveniently ignores his flaws.
Last season, Solskjaer received a stay of execution at Old Trafford, but it was obvious that his time was up. He was simply not qualified to lead Manchester United, and history cannot be changed. However, Cristiano Ronaldo refused to acknowledge this when speaking to Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo was asked for his opinion on Solskjaer, who oversaw his return to the club, in the section of the interview that was made public on Wednesday night. His remarks on the Norwegian hinted at a larger situation involving other players.
I cherish Solskjaer. Ole, in my opinion, is a top person... It's hard, but I think he was a top person because what I hold in my heart is the heart of the person, Ronaldo said. It's challenging to fill Sir Alex Ferguson's shoes, but I think he did a terrific job overall.
"You require a lot more time. But I do not doubt that he will develop into a successful coach in the future. It was a positive encounter. I was ecstatic to collaborate with him, even for a brief time.
It was intriguing that Ronaldo, a player who wanted to speak out against the decline in standards at Old Trafford during an interview with Morgan, praised a manager who was upholding the standards.
Because he has won the Ballon d'Or five times, there was always going to be someone who would frequently start him, regardless of his actual performances and attitude.
This interview snafu would almost certainly not have occurred if Solskjaer had been in charge this season since Ronaldo would have been playing frequently. Because Solskjaer lacked that kind of grit, United needed Ten Hag more than ever.
Since being appointed, Ten Hag hasn't stroked Ronaldo's ego or treated him like a deity. Instead, the Dutchman has treated him equally, which is what caused the conflict that resulted in this very public disagreement.
Ronaldo still has time to elaborate on his remarks in the second half of the interview, but it appears that he wanted a manager who would be a pushover and "put a grin on his face." The team needs a manager like that, and Ten Hag is not it.
