Torres has been linked with a move to a Premier League club since winning the Europa League with Villarreal in 2021.
Manchester United and Tottenham have been the most heavily linked with the centre-back, but Aston Villa, now managed by former Villarreal boss Unai Emery, have reportedly joined the race for his signature ahead of the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old has also established himself as a pillar at the heart of the Spanish national team, and he is expected to start alongside Eric Garcia at the World Cup after Sergio Ramos was left at home.
Jeremie Frimpong
Frimpong has yet to play in the Premier League despite being a Manchester City academy graduate.

His outstanding performances have reportedly piqued the interest of Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as Louis van Gaal. The 21-year-old is currently uncapped at senior international level, but he has been named to the Netherlands' World Cup squad and will compete for the right wing-back spot with Denzel Dumfries.
ayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong Edson Alvarez Alvarez was the subject of a £43 million bid from Chelsea in August and refused to train with the Ajax first team in order to force the transfer through.
However, Ajax declined the offer because the Dutch transfer window had closed and they had already experienced a mass exodus of players during the summer.'Chelsea was interested,' he later told ESPN. "No one expected them to make another offer. It was a trying situation.
"Ajax was completely helpless. They lacked a player in my position. Of course, I fought all the way. I didn't want to do it too often.
"Because I am aware of the responsibility I bear within the club." I'm disappointed, but I'm confident that a big club will come after me sooner or later."
Chelsea are said to be renewing their interest in him during the January transfer window, while Manchester United have also been linked with him.The Mexico international will be hoping that his World Cup performances will lead to a Premier League move in January.
Enzo Fernandez
Fernandez, who joined Benfica from River Plate in the summer, has quickly established himself as one of Europe's most exciting young midfielders.
The 21-year-old has been instrumental in Benfica's strong start to 2022/23, as they finished ahead of PSG and Juventus in their Champions League group and are on track to win their first Primeira Liga title since 2019.
Manchester United and Liverpool have reportedly sent scouts to watch the Argentina international and will now monitor his progress at the World Cup.The box-to-box midfielder had only three caps for his country prior to the World Cup, but with Giovani Lo Celso out, he looks set to play a key role in the tournament.
Gakpo, Cody
Manchester United came close to signing Gakpo during the summer transfer window, but backed out after signing Antony from Ajax.
The PSV winger has put that behind him and has had a fantastic start to 2022/23, with 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.Rafael Leao
After being named Serie A Footballer of the Year during AC Milan's title-winning season in 2021/22, Leao has become one of Europe's most sought-after forwards.
TEAMtalk's Graeme Bailey reported that Chelsea are pushing hard for the winger, but Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool are also interested.
The 23-year-old has just over 18 months left on his Milan contract and has shown no desire to stay at the San Siro.
"We've been talking about this [contract extension] for months, if not years," Milan director Paolo Maldini told Sky Sport Italia."We'll get together at the right time and make a decision." The plan was to close [the deal] before the World Cup, especially with players involved in the competition, such as Leao in this case. It was not possible."
Leao will represent Portugal in Qatar, filling the void left by Liverpool's Diogo Jota, who has been ruled out of the World Cup due to injury.
Mohamed Kudus
Kudus, like Edson Alvarez, was denied a Premier League transfer by Ajax during the summer transfer window.Everton manager Frank Lampard identified the Ghana international and made a £15 million bid, which was turned down by the Eredivisie club.
The centre-forward, who can also play in midfield, responded well and has 10 goals and two assists in 21 appearances this season, including a spectacular strike against Liverpool in the Champions League.
He'll now be hoping to show off his skills on the biggest stage, as Ghana competes in Group H against Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
Tottenham director Fabio Paratici, according to reports in Italy, will keep a close eye on Kudus during the World Cup as he considers adding a new forward to Antonio Conte's squad.
Marcus Thuram Thuram has been in outstanding form for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, tallying 13 goals and four assists in 17 appearances.
The striker, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Liverpool all keeping an eye on his situation.
His impressive performances have also earned him a spot in France's World Cup squad, where he will hope to follow in the footsteps of his father, Lilian, who won the trophy in 1998.
The 25-year-old has only four international caps, but with Christopher Nkunku and Karim Benzema out, he could play a much larger role in the tournament.
Memphis Depay Depay failed to make an impression during his 18-month stint at Manchester United, scoring only two goals in 33 Premier League appearances.
The 28-year-old rediscovered his best form at Lyon and then had an impressive debut season at Barcelona in 2021/22 before falling down the pecking order with the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.
As Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, and Newcastle have all been linked with the striker in recent weeks, he could be given another chance to break into the Premier League.
With 12 goals and six assists in World Cup qualifying, Depay is undoubtedly the most important player for the Netherlands and will be vying for the Golden Boot in Qatar.Youssoufa Moukoko
