Ronaldo received a two-match suspension, a £50,000 fine and a warning.

Cristiano Ronaldo was handed a two-match ban and a £50,000 fine by the Football Association for dropping a fan's mobile phone on the ground last season.

The 37-year-old, whose contract with Manchester United ended this week, has been charged by the FA with "improper and/or violent" conduct following the Everton incident last April.

Ronaldo has since apologized on social media and accepted a police warning after smashing a young fan's phone while leaving the pitch at Goodison Park.

Merseyside police confirmed they closed an investigation on August 17 after interviewing Ronaldo in connection with the assault and vandalism allegations. However, an FA investigation found the Portuguese striker facing a hefty fine and a two-match suspension if he returns to competition in England.

The FA's statement said:

"Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for two matches, fined £50,000 and cautioned for breach of FA Regulation E3 for further conduct.

"The forward has admitted his behavior was inappropriate after the final whistle of the Premier League match between Manchester United FC and Everton FC on Saturday 9 April 2022.

"At a subsequent public hearing, an independent regulatory board found his conduct inappropriate and violent and imposed sanctions."

United had originally offered to defend Ronaldo if he received a few-match suspension for his actions, but now that he has cut ties with the club, they are unable to offer such support. is no longer in their interest.

After the incident, Ronaldo took to Instagram to apologize for his actions. He said:

“It is never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments like the one we are facing. You must set an example for your players.

"I would like to apologize for my anger. If possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch the game at Old Trafford as a show of fair play and sportsmanship."
