Before the match against the USA, Gareth Southgate provides an update on Harry Kane's injury, warning that he may not play.
Harry Kane needed a scan after suffering a foot injury in England's opening match against Iran, but he is now ready to face the Americans as the Three Lions prepare for their World Cup run.
Harry Kane is healthy and in the finest shape of his life ahead of England's World Cup matchup against the United States.
With Tottenham manager Antonio Conte stating that Kane has never performed better and is in excellent physical and mental shape, Gareth Southgate claims that Kane enters the competition full of confidence.
With 12 goals in 15 games this season and only two goals away from breaking Wayne Rooney's record, England captain Harry Kane is at the height of his game.
Kane gave England a scare this week when he was sent for a scan on a foot injury rather than his troublesome ankle, but he will undoubtedly start against the United States.
When asked if he agreed with Conte's assessment of Kane's form, Southgate replied, "Yeah, he's in a good space." Definitely.
"Because of the load he had, we managed him a little bit last week through training, so I think we're always conscious of that, and we do that with a lot of players really."
"Some need a little more training, while others may only need half a session, depending on their individual load." Some of our guys haven't played as much football and need to be pushed a little more at times, so we're always individually preparing for that, but he's in a good spot."
Kane trained with his teammates as usual at England's base in Al Wakrah ahead of the match against the United States. Harry Maguire has also been cleared to play. Maguire left the Iran game with concussion symptoms, but Southgate insisted the Manchester United defender had actually felt ill and dehydrated in the second half.
Southgate is expected to name the same starting lineup that defeated Iran 6-2, but he says no one should expect another goal rush in the second Group match.
"The risk for us is that we think, because we played well the other day, we can just go through to the next game," Southgate added. We need to find that reset button in order to have the same psychology and determination.
I do see that in the players. All our players are playing at big clubs and have to perform every week. They know when they come with England, theyve got to do the same.
