Mason Mount rejects £200,000 Chelsea contract with representatives wanting same pay as teammate Raheem Sterling

Mason Mount is said to have declined a new contract offer from Chelsea worth more than £200,000 per week.

The Blues midfielder has just 18 months left on his contract, and it's believed the two parties are still far apart, according to the Daily Mail. The offer was turned down just a week before the star flew out to England for the 2022 World Cup, with Chelsea agreeing to put negotiations on hold until his return.

However, it is understood that talks are still ongoing, and the situation could become even more difficult if the 23-year-old continues to impress in Qatar, as he did in their opening 6-2 victory.

Chelsea risk seeing their star's transfer value decrease as his current contract expires in a year and a half, despite interest from Liverpool and Juventus.Mount's representatives are said to have asked for the star to be paid the same as teammate Raheem Sterling, who earns £300,000 per week.

Meanwhile, teammate Reece James recently signed a new six-year contract that increased his weekly salary to £250,000.

Mount is one of Chelsea's lowest-paid players, earning £85,000 per week.Mount is still on the same salary he was given shortly after returning from a loan spell at then-championship club Derby County three years ago, before becoming a first-team regular.

He will play for England again on Tuesday, November 29 against Wales, which will be broadcast live on talkSPORT.
