The Ultium architecture will serve as the foundation for a brand-new electric crossover that Buick plans to introduce in China in the first half of 2023.Before the end of the year, we will get our first official look at this product, and a second model will come shortly after. It is unknown whether the second offering will also include an SUV.

It will be developed and built with SAIC, GM's official technical partner in China, just like the rest of its regional products. The new car, according to both parties, will lead the electric vehicle industry in terms of safety, intelligence, and luxury. The energy will come from a cutting-edge battery cell made just for China. It will also have the wireless battery management system that General Motors made for cars like the Cadillac Lyriq. The Virtual Cockpit System instrument cluster and the Super Cruise semi-autonomous cruise control system, both of which were developed in part by Shanghai software company PATAC, are also intended for the new SUV.With the introduction of this model, Buick intends to expand its presence in the nation by opening 58 showrooms and 600 Buick NEV Zones through dealership networks.

By the end of the year, third-party operators will have upgraded more than 400,000 existing charging locations all over the country. It is understood that this new model will not be known by its current name, Velite, which refers to the 6 Plus and 7 model ranges that are based on the existing Chevrolet Bolt. Instead, it will carry the new Buick emblem.Sadly, the brand has not provided any additional information about the upcoming product other than the announcement that it will be available before the end of the year. Its current lineup of internal combustion-powered and electrified crossovers and MPVs will include the two new models.

As the brand's return to stylish and aspirational sedans and coupes, the North American market will patiently await the Buick Electra. In the meantime, the Envista, a new Chinese Buick model, has been confirmed for the US market.
