The UEFA Champions League is the most prestigious and difficult club football tournament in the world. With so many strong squads taking part, this club tournament has to be the best of its kind. The competition is usually thrilling and heated because of the underdogs and the high stakes of winning the trophy.

While Guardiola has twice won the Champions League as a coach, he has only seen defeat in recent years. This is his sixth exit from the competition, tying him with Jose Mourinho for the most semi-final exits ever. Formerly of Bayern Munich and Barcelona, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has assembled some excellent squads, but they have frequently failed to deliver.

Mourinho has won the trophy while managing both Porto and Inter, as well as reaching the final with four different clubs (Porto, Chelsea, Inter, and Madrid) along the way. Guardiola, on the other hand, has led all three of his employers, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and City, to the semifinals, but he has only won the championship twice, and that was in the 2010-11 season while still managing Barcelona.

Toni Kroos 'rejects' Manchester City move as he makes Real Madrid decision and more transfer rumours

Manchester City may look to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window in order to win the Premier League for the third year in a row.

Toni Kroos is said to have decided to stay at Real Madrid.

Manchester City have been linked with a move for Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos in recent weeks - but have now been dealt a setback by the German midfielder, who has reportedly turned down a move to City in order to stay in the Spanish capital. After signing two strikers in the summer in Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland, Pep Guardiola chose to sign Kalvin Phillips from Leeds as a midfield pivot after two extremely impressive seasons at the Yorkshire club following their promotion to the Premier League. However, due to injuries, the English midfielder has only played 53 minutes of football this season, despite earning an England call-up.

At the World Cup break, the reigning champions are five points behind Arsenal and could have used more midfield backup this season in terms of tiredness and injury prevention. And, according to Fichajes, they approached Germany icon Kroos, only to be turned down.According to the publication, Kroos' contract expires in June, and after rejecting a contract renewal at the Santiago Bernabeu, City made a move for a man, with former team Bayern Munich also interested.

However, it appears that the midfielder will reject both clubs in order to remain in Madrid.

In other news, Bernardo Silva is expected to sign a new and improved contract at the Etihad Stadium, putting an end to the uncertainty surrounding his future. The Portugal star has long been linked with a move to Barcelona, and there was general agreement in the north west that Silva would not be wearing the blue shirt for much longer. Guardiola had even given Silva permission to leave, saying: "We want him to stay, but I don't want anyone who is unhappy. The first step would be for the clubs to reach an agreement, but no offer has been made for him in the last two years."

However, City are eager for Silva to follow in the footsteps of Riyad Mahrez, Rodri, and Phil Foden, who have all signed new contracts this season, according to Football Insider.

The total value of the transaction would be more than £40 million.
