La Liga insight into Raphinha's Barcelona troubles and possible departure of ex-Leeds United man
Leeds Live spoke with La Liga Showdown's Matt Clark about Raphinha's move to the Nou Camp.
Nobody at Leeds United is bitter about the summer transfer of Brazilian winger Raphinha to Barcelona. The former Whites talisman was instrumental in keeping Jesse Marsch's side in the Premier League last season, and his performances on the pitch earned him a move to the La Liga giants.
Barcelona may not be the formidable juggernaut of European football that they were more than a decade ago, but the club's size, stature, and history are enough to entice any player. Financial difficulties have caused the club to struggle in recent years.Spending beyond their means to re-establish themselves as one of Europe's elite has yet to bear fruit. Despite hitting the ground running in pre-season, Raphinha's start to the current season has been difficult.
Leeds Live spoke with Matt Clark of La Liga Showdown about Raphinha's move to Barcelona and how he's fared at the Nou Camp.Clark, Matt: "Yes, as you will recall, he started and finished for Leeds last season. Many prominent Barcelona fan accounts on Twitter were so eager to secure Raphinha that they began actively following the relegation battle, hoping Burnley would win and the reported relegation clause would be activated.
"I'm not sure what Sean Dyche would think of Burnley and Barcelona! Raphinha hit the ground running in pre-season, scoring in his first two appearances against Inter Miami and Real Madrid in the United States.
"It may have only been a friendly, but any Clasico winner will always mean a lot to the Barça fans."
