As always, the World Cup is made by the fans.
And the tournament's inaugural hosting in the Middle East has been no exception.
Despite the controversy surrounding Qatar's decision to host the games, the lodging alternatives, not to mention the costs, have helped to create an unmatched carnival atmosphere.
Some of the highlights to date are as follows:
adherence to the Palestinian cause
The Palestinian people must frequently feel as though the world has forgotten about their plight.
Few can afford to travel to the World Cup despite Qatar allowing flights for fans from Israel and Palestine, who have been stateless for more than 70 years.
But at practically every game, there have been messages of encouragement from the crowd. Many South Americans, as well as supporters who are not Arabs, have shown their support for the Palestinians.
He is Neymar!
One of the most well-known football players in the world is currently in Doha. He wasn't, however, the man being hounded by onlookers as he walked down the street in the capital of Qatar.
Even Fox Sports mistakenly identified him as the PSG and Brazil striker who is presently sidelined with an ankle injury, and he was assaulted by fans eager for a selfie.
Fox and many fans both acknowledged that they had been "had." It's unclear, however the two men who were following him through the crowd imply that it was some type of trick.
