The winter transfer window is quickly approaching, and there are reports that Manchester United may sign Ronaldo's replacement in January. There have been numerous rumors linking the Premier League club to top talent such as Cody Gakpo. However, Bruno Fernandes, who joined Manchester United from Sporting in the 2019/20 winter transfer window, is regarded as the most expensive winter signing in history. He was signed for a massive fee of 55 million Euros, making him the only player signed for more than 50 million by Manchester United during the winter transfer window. However, many players were signed by Manchester United for more than ten million Euros during the winter transfer window. Mata, Forlan, Alexis Sanchez, Saha, W. Zaha, and N. Vidic are among these players. The majority of the players they signed in the January transfer window were successful and performed admirably for the club. Only a few of these players were sold after failing to prove their worth to the club. Manchester United's most expensive winter signings include Tosic, Patrice Evra, and A. Cole.Manchester United has always preferred to bring in world-class players during the summer transfer window. That explains why they spent millions of Euros to sign Casemiro, Antony, and Lisandro Martinez during the 2022 summer transfer window. Even if they sign a player during the winter transfer window, it will not be a last-minute purchase, which means they will not spend too much money on a player. With the news of the club's potential sale, it's likely that the club will not sign any players in January, preferring to wait until the summer to find a potential replacement for Ronaldo.

Real Madrid were very close to signing €85 million star

Aurelien Tchouameni joined Real Madrid from AS Monaco in the summer in a big money deal, and he has proven to be worth every penny. Since joining the club, the Frenchman has been outstanding, and it is difficult to believe how seamlessly he has moved into the starting XI and replaced a legend like Casemiro, who joined Manchester United in the summer.

Another midfielder is thought to have been close to signing with the club, but it did not happen. In retrospect, this has proven to be costly for Real Madrid.According to Marca, Real Madrid came close to signing Enzo Fernandez but did not do so for two reasons. For starters, there was no open non-EU spot in their squad at the time. Second, there were concerns about the Argentine midfielder's time in Europe.

Fernandez instead joined Benfica from River Plate for a fee believed to be around €12 million and has been a revelation since then.

Real Madrid was on the verge of signing Argentine

Benfica may have signed Fernandez for around €12 million, but given his performances for both club and country, as well as the increased interest in his signature, new rumours suggest that the Portuguese giants will seek a fee in the range of €80 million to €85 million for the Argentine.

Real Madrid are not the only club linked with him recently, as some of Europe's biggest clubs are said to have taken notice of the Argentine in recent months. He also performed well at the World Cup, scoring against Mexico. Both of these issues have been resolved for Real Madrid. They have all three non-EU spots open, and there are no longer any doubts about Fernandez's ability to adapt to the European game.
