Brazil to take late fitness call on Neymar, says team doctor
LUSAIL, Qatar, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Brazil defender Danilo has shown positive signs of recovery from an ankle injury, while Neymar is racing against time to be fit for their last 16 match against South Korea, according to team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar after Friday's 1-0 defeat by Cameroon.
Danilo and Neymar both suffered ankle injuries in Brazil's opening 2-0 win over Serbia, ruling them out of the 1-0 win over Switzerland and the shocking loss to Cameroon.
Alex Sandro suffered a hip injury against the Swiss, and Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus may also join the injury list after complaining of pain after Friday's game, in which Tite fielded a second-string Brazil squad."Regarding Neymar and Alex Sandro, we think we have time on our hands and there is a possibility," Lasmar told reporters when asked if they would be available for Monday's last-16 match.
"Let's see how they transition - they haven't started practicing with the ball yet, but they will do so tomorrow. It will be important to see how they react to this new style, and we will make a decision based on that.
"Danilo has been progressing very well, and today he did a lot of work with the ball and adapted functionally very well. It is expected that he will be able to train normally with all players tomorrow."Let's see what happens, and if everything goes well, we have high hopes that he'll be available for the next match."
Telles and Gabriel will be tested on Saturday, according to the team doctor.
"Alex Telles exited the game complaining of right knee pain following trauma. He was evaluated in the changing room and will undergo a magnetic resonance image tomorrow to determine his condition "He stated.
"After the game, Gabriel Jesus complained of pain in his right knee, and after clinical evaluation, we requested an imaging exam for tomorrow."Despite losing to Cameroon, the first African team to defeat Brazil in a World Cup, Tite's side finished first in Group G on goal difference, with six points, ahead of Switzerland, who advanced after defeating Serbia 3-2.
Brazil is vying for a sixth World Cup in Qatar.
