Lewandowski's surprising statement: I knew he was going to save my penalty

Poland's forward scored from the penalty spot after having to retake his kick.

Robert Lewandowski of Poland

In Poland's loss to France, Robert Lewandowski scored from the penalty spot to make amends.

It was almost embarrassing, as Lloris initially saved the penalty.

However, there was an intrusion into the area, and the French goalkeeper also moved off his line, so Venezuelan referee Jesus Valenzuela ordered a retake.

The striker got his revenge by scoring another World Cup goal.

A mistake saved him.

In the first instance, the forward jumped up to three times before taking the penalty, which Lloris saved.

The referee immediately requested a retake, and the replay showed several French players invading the area before Lewandowski shot.

The French goalkeeper was also two steps behind the play.

Then, on the second try, he scored. Lloris dove to the same side, but Lewandowski changed his aim."I didn't kick well because I knew he'd save it," Lewandowski admitted.

"However, in the end, I scored, and I believe we deserved it, both me and my teammates, because we tried."

"We had a difficult game against the current world champions."

Will Lewandowski return to the World Cup?

Lewandowski, 34, is unsure whether he will remain with the national team.

"You need to have fun in the game." It is critical for the future. "There is no such joy when we play defense," he continued.

"It's different when we try to attack. There are a number of factors that could influence my decision to continue playing for Poland."Lewandowski has 78 goals for Poland, making him the eighth-highest scorer in international football history, surpassing Pele.

He scored two goals in Qatar 2022 and missed a penalty against Mexico, which was saved by Guillermo Ochoa.

Physically, he is capable of continuing to play at the international level, and even more so if he stays at a top-tier club like Barcelona.
