Ghana Education Service, (GES) publicly released the 2022/2023 Academic year calendar for Basic Schools in Ghana.
The 2022/2023 Academic year calendar features all three levels of Basic Education ( Nursery, Kindergarten, Lower and Upper Primary, ( B1-B6) and Junior High Schools, (JHS) in Ghana.
The academic calendar is structured based on trimester, consisting of three terms in a year for all levels.
Term 1 -2022/2023 Academic Calendar
The first term of the 2022/2023 academic Calendar will begin on 9th January 2023 and ends on 31st March 2023, a period of 12 weeks, and the vacations are scheduled to last for ten (10) days for Nursery Kindergarten, Primary school, and Junior High School across the country.
Term 2 - 2022/2023 Academic Calendar
The second term will commence on 10th April 2023 and will end on 28th June 2023, with an interval of 12 weeks as contact weeks and a vacation period of thirteen (13) for all levels of Basic Education.
Term 3 - 2022/2023 Academic Calendar
The Third Term will start on 10th July 2023 and end on 28th September 2023. A period of 12 contact weeks for all Nursery, kindergarten, Basic 1-Basic 6, and Junior High schools.
The 2022/2023 academic calendar allocates 36 weeks that will be spent on campus in the year across all levels of basic school.
2022/2023 Academic Calendar is slightly different compared to the last year's Academic Calendar. The discrepancies as a result of the pandemic, COVID-19, which make the 2021/2022 academic calendar end on 15th December, 2022 so the new new GES 2022/2023 seems to addressed it.
Next year's academic calendar will start from 9th January, 2023 to 28th September, 2023.The vacation periods of the trimester for Nursery, Kindergarten, Basic 1 - Basic 6, and Junior High School will last for a few days. The students will spend a total of 36 contact weeks in the academic year.
