The 17-year conflict between Man United supporters and the Glazers saw a significant victory.
Prior to Manchester United's August match against Liverpool, Talbot Road was filled with anti-Glazer chants that were likely audible from Castlefield due to the 10,000 or more supporters that marched to Old Trafford to put more pressure on the Glazers.
Since the protest demonstrated that the outrage of supporters had not subsided, it seemed like another crucial event in the history of demonstrations against the Glazers' ownership. Due to a large-scale protest against the Glazers, United's march against Liverpool in April 2021 was postponed. This August's march had a similarly militant vibe, with anger toward the Americans tangible once more.
On that Monday afternoon, there were some offensive chants heard and some objects thrown at a coach that had terrified children inside, but most of the 10,000 people arrived peacefully, as The 1958 fans' organization had requested.
The 1958 organized the most recent demonstration, and they have tried to keep pressure on the Glazers this year with looking into other strategies like online campaigns that aim to persuade the owners of United to sell the team.
It was questionable whether the Glazers, who live in Tampa Bay, Florida, would pay attention to such demonstrations, but it appears that the anti-Glazer noise has really reached them, as their control over the club now looks to be waning.
and that was a momentous news that supporters had been waiting for ever since the Glazers took control of the company in 2005.
The Glazers have been the target of a 17-year war, and small victories have been made against their ownership along the way, but the disclosure that the team was for sale and yesterday's report that dividends won't be paid out of United for the first time since 2016 stand as the biggest successes thus far, with the Americans seemingly running out of time.
Another sign that the Glazers' ownership is coming to an end is that they are not taking their dividends. This is especially true given that they were the only Premier League owners who did so, even during the pandemic.
United handed out £33.6 million in dividends, largely to the Glazer family, in the previous financial statements that were announced in September for the year up to June 30 2022; however, this has halted.
