Mbappe posts a three-word message of defiance following the heartbreaking World Cup loss.
Following France's heartbreaking World Cup final loss to Argentina, Kylian Mbappe has spoken out, adamant that his team would recover and push for additional victories.
Mbappe, who joined Geoff Hurst as the only other male player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final, nearly single-handedly propelled his team to victory.
Hurst's 1966 hat trick helped Argentina win after a thrilling 3-3 draw, but Mbappe still ended up on the wrong side of the result. Following France's defeat, Mbappe posted a three-word message on Twitter early on Monday.
He also posted a photo of himself looking downhearted despite winning the Golden Boot, writing, "We will return."
Mbappe's remarks imply that he is anticipating the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
With eight goals in seven games, while playing in Qatar, Mbappe outperformed Lionel Messi and won the Golden Boot.
He is currently tied with Pele for the most goals scored in a World Cup with 12 after playing in two of them.
Only five male players have scored more goals at the World Cup than Mbappe, and the German's Miroslav Klose, who is now leading the record, is just four goals ahead of him.
The French forward, who will still just be 27 when the World Cup is held in North America, has a chance to surpass Klose there.
The fact that France has appeared in four of the last seven World Cup finals—winning two and losing two—shows that they have long been among the strongest teams in football.
They've also demonstrated in previous times that they can bounce back from crushing defeats, and Mbappe has given them his support in doing so again following their most recent loss. Next to read on:
