Jordan Pickford being named Everton Fans' Footballer of the Year is perfectly timed after pundits jibes
Jordan Pickford's brilliant relationship with Everton fans is once again on display.
Just months after Pickford picked up the club's Player of the Season honour - voted for by supporters - the goalkeeper has now been named Everton Fans' Footballer of the Year. And it's difficult to blame the award on the England international.
Although Pickford didn't manage to cap off 2022 with World Cup glory with England, his performances for Everton, on the whole, have been exceptional. The term "electronic commerce" refers to the sale of goods and services over the internet. When his team needed him the most to avoid the drop, he delivered. Back in April, an inspired performance helped the Blues secure all three points against Manchester United at Goodison Park, kicking off their survival bid.
Pickford then cemented himself into the Goodison Park history books with a save that will live long in the memory. The England number one's astonishing stop from Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta in Everton's 1-0 win back in May qualifies as one of the saves of this or any season.Another man-of-the-match display then came when the Blues beat Leicester City at the King Power as Pickford singlehandedly kept the Foxes out during a second-half onslaught. Harvey Barnes's save stands out.
Pickford was in goal when Everton came from behind to beat Crystal Palace in a tense game at Goodison Park. The victory ensured that the Blues would play in the Premier League this season.
And, not content with what he accomplished last season, Pickford has continued where he left off this season, emerging as one of his team's standout performers. His display against Fulham back in October has been his best so far.It should be noted, however, that no one could have objected if Alex Iwobi or Richarlison had won the award. But Pickford is the man Blues supporters have voted for and it is easy to see why.
And the announcement couldn't have come at a better time, given that Roy Keane and Ben Foster were just having their annual digs at the Everton manager last week.
But this vote just shows - and not for the first time - that what many of these so called pundits have got to say is completely wide of the mark.
