The French national team appeared in front of their supporters in central Paris on Monday night to celebrate a run that saw them come within millimeters of defending their title, despite their World Cup final loss to Argentina.
Les Bleus gathered on the balcony of the Hôtel de Crillon while a 50,000-person crowd gathered on the Place de la Concorde, towards the end of the Champs-Élysées where they would have paraded past had they won.
Though FFF president Noel Le Grat had told the media that the players were in no mood to go celebrate and preferred to instead focus on their training, the occurrence had been the topic of a debate at the highest echelons of French football that morning.
Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, the Minister for Spots, insisted that the event was indeed taking place.
The FFF confirmed the appearance in the middle of the day, thus the reality is rather ambiguous, according to L'Équipe. A few French players were first hesitant about the proposal but later changed their minds. President Emmanuel Macron, at the top, claimed to have insisted on the event and pushed for it to give the fans a chance to congratulate Les Bleus on their success.
