The Republic of Ghana; comes the year 2024, will be going to the polls once again, to elect a new president and 275 members of Parliament.

As per the constitution of Ghana, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, will be ending terms of office in January 2025; which also means his party the rulling New Patriotic Party (NPP), will have to present a new flag-bearer to stand against the Former president John Dramani Mahama comes election 2024.

Whereas Former President John Dramani Mahama is aiming for a come-back, to complete his second term (8 years) in office, the rulling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is also working hard to make history by retaining power beyond their 8 years in office.

many political experts have been wondering; considering the current hardships facing the country, can the rulling New Patriotic Party (NPP) break the 8 years power cycle in Ghana come election 2024? Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has this to reveal.

According to Mr. Wontumi, history is against the NPP's plans of retaining power in the year 2024, which is termed 'Agenda Breaking the 8'.

Popularly Known as Chairman Wontumi, Mr. Boasiako stated that, "since 1992, no political party in Ghana has governed the country more than two terms therefore... history is against our agenda’’.

According to him, for the party to be able to meet this agenda of retaining power in the next election, it is needs hard work and commitment from every member of the party.

Addressing the NPP Ashanti Regional Branch of the Tertiary Student Confederacy (TESCON) three days camp meeting by members of all the 58 tertiary institutions in Kumasi, Chairman Wontumi encouraged members to get their Ghana Cards ready since it will be needed for the 2024 election.

He stressed that, "You are always saying break the 8 but you don’t have a Ghana Card. How can we win the election in 2024 while you still don’t have a Ghana card?  If you are a TESCON member and you don’t have a Ghana Card it means you are not ready for power. Winning election 2024 is a process which starts with securing a Ghana card followed by other actions through the years ahead before the final action on the election day".
