Gifty Twum Ampofo, a deputy minister of education, has urged parents to support their intelligent kids' ambition to pursue technical vocational education and training (TVET).
She said that the government has made significant investments in retooling universities and supplying equipment to provide pupils the necessary skills and knowledge.
"You cannot imply that your child should pursue TVET because he is not intelligent. Make sure your youngster is interested in participating in TVET.
"The days when people believed it was only for little children who were not serious are long gone. As long as you have a heart, mind, and hands to perform the skills, TVET is for everyone.
Graduation
This was stated by Ms. Twum Ampofo in the Central Region during the Onua Francis International School's inaugural graduation ceremony in Gomoa Buduburam.
The occasion, with the theme "Empowering the Younger Generation With Quality Education for Better Future," served to officially open the school's dining hall as well as its male and female dorms.
Ms. Twum Ampofo recommended young students to take an interest in TVET programmes in order to get the skills necessary to start their own enterprises and find employment more quickly than by waiting for government jobs.
In order to encourage young people, she added, "Once you have the talents and the love, you can follow TVET, which is the route to proceed.
She said that the administration had made such significant progress in the TVET sector that it had not even finished what it had begun to do.
She listed several of the institutions that had undergone renovations, including the Biriwa National Vocational Training (NVTI), the Winneba NVTI, the Cape Coast Technical Institute, the Cape Coast Technical University, the Accra Technical University, the Tema Technical Institute, the Ashaiman Technical Institute, and the St. Paul's Technical Institute.
According to Ms. Twum Ampofo, the lack of emphasis on issues like TVET, which is essential for fostering national development and a component of the answer to the unemployment problem, is the reason why the country is not performing well.
This time, she remarked, "our eyes are opened, and TVET is for the cream of the crop."
Francis Essel-Okyeahene, the school's chief executive officer, said the institution was founded three and a half years ago to offer education to kids who didn't have access to the resources it had in the Buduburam area.
