Edouard Mendy has reportedly rejected a new six-year contract with Chelsea as the club are not showing him enough 'respect' regarding wages.

Mendy was paid £22 million to transfer from French club Rennes to the Blues in 2020, and he has since made 104 appearances for the team.

His first season at Stamford Bridge saw him shine as he helped the team win the Champions League and the FIFA Best Goalkeeper Award in 2021. However, a combination of injuries and poor play cost him his starting position this season.

The Sun also claims that Mendy, whose current contract with the club expires in 2025, has rejected a new six-year deal with the organization over a pay disagreement.

According to the article, the 30-year-old presently makes about £100,000 per week, or about half of Kepa Arrizabalaga, his goalkeeping competitor.

Mendy is rumored to demand a salary comparable to that of Kepa, the most expensive goalkeeper in the world following his £72 million transfer from Athletic Bilbao in 2018.

There is allegedly a contract standoff between the two parties as Chelsea reportedly withdrew its initial offer to Mendy in an effort to be firm throughout the talks.

According to reports, Monaco, Nice, and AC Milan are three clubs keeping an eye on his status and would be interested in signing the goalkeeper if the chance presented itself.

Mendy, who earlier this year helped Senegal win the African Cup of Nations, was a member of the team that fell to England in the World Cup's round of 16.

He began this season as Chelsea's first-choice keeper and during his time there, he also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

But as the team's performance declined under Thomas Tuchel, Mendy committed a number of high-profile mistakes and Kepa took his place in the lineup.

However, Mendy took over for the Spaniard at halftime and played Chelsea's final two Premier League games before the World Cup break after the player hurt himself during Chelsea's 4-1 loss to Brighton.

He has made a total of 11 appearances this season and will now compete with Kepa for Graham Potter's starting goalkeeper position in the second half of the campaign.
