A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Accra Technical University (ATU) and the Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI) aims to integrate technical training with management skills to increase participants' competitiveness on the job market.
As part of the three-year agreement, short courses that are specifically tailored for participants and the labour force will be found and developed in order to increase institutional efficiencies.
The ATU will, among other things, offer hands-on instruction and develop the skills of staff, students, and participants in pertinent areas in order to increase the production, expansion, and growth of both institutions.
In exchange, the MDPI will, among other things, give students training opportunities for internships, industrial attachments, visits, and tours; it will also increase the capacity of the ATU staff; and it will give participants access to facilities to help them enhance their management abilities.
As a result, the two institutions ultimately hope to work together to complement one another's efforts to improve the hands-on training of students and participants and to increase staff capacity.
Both the acting Director-General of the MDPI, Bernice Adjei, and the Vice-Chancellor of the ATU, Professor Samuel Nii Odai, signed the document on behalf of their respective institutions at the ATU in Accra.
Zones of collaboration
The certification of trainees, employees, students, and participants who have successfully completed co-identified programmes and organised short courses will also take place.
Additionally, relevant research projects will be found and carried out that will be beneficial to both universities.
The parties will also compile input on the performance of their employees, pupils, participants, and graduates in relation to revising the curriculum and creating new curriculum in areas of mutual benefit.
Additionally, they will collaborate on publishing research findings resulting from teaching and research activities that they both do.
Prof. Odai expressed delight over the new relationship and hoped it will result in the desired outcomes at the signing ceremony.
He claimed that the MoU was consistent with the university's educational philosophy and strategic plan, which entailed preparing students for employment and job creation.
