Rule changes coming in 2023 that could affect Manchester United and Man City

With one confirmed and another potentially coming into play, 2023 could see some significant changes that will impact the game.

Referees may receive additional assistance in 2023.Following the winter World Cup in Qatar, football will resume normalcy in 2023, after three years of erratic schedules due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The end of the 2023/24 season will be packed with games in order to make up for the time lost due to the World Cup, which took place between November and December. As top players face fixture congestion, the conclusion of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup will be factored into the remaining Premier League and Champions League matches.Following that, top players will see next season as a welcome relief with a less hectic schedule. However, the European Championship, which will take place at the end of the season, will still be considered, with Germany hosting the tournament in June 2024.

Here is a list of all the upcoming football changes:

Confirmed alterations

The winter player break has returned:

This season, many players have had the opportunity to enjoy a winter break during the World Cup, with players such as Manchester City striker Erling Haaland taking six weeks off after his country failed to qualify. However, the FA-mandated winter break will return next season.

This will take place between January 13 and 20, with players taking a break after what can be a hectic holiday schedule.

Changes that could occur

Semi-automated offsides:

Semi-automated offside decisions, which were successfully implemented during this season's Champions League before taking center stage at the World Cup in Qatar, may be making their way to English football this year. There has been no confirmation that the technology brought in to improve the VAR process will be used in English football. However, with VAR being implemented following the 2018 World Cup, there is a strong likelihood that the new offside system will be implemented very soon.
