With the news of George Cohen's demise on Thursday, there are now 17 footballers from the England squad that won the 1966 World Cup who have unfortunately passed away.

At Wembley Stadium, England defeated longtime foe Germany 4-2 to earn their lone international victory.

The 22 members of Sir Alf Ramsey's team are considered legendary and have never been surpassed. The devastating news of Cohen's passing away at age 83 arrived on Friday.

Only Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Geoff Hurst remain from the starting XI against Germany.

Defender Bobby Moore (24 February 1993 - 12 April 1941)

Moore is one of the best defenders of his generation and led England to World Cup victory. Moore was once cited by Pele as his most challenging foe. The West Ham United hero passed away at age 51 from intestinal cancer. In front of Wembley Stadium, there is currently a statue of Moore.Midfielder Alan Ball (12 May 1945 – 25 April 2007)

Ball, who was 21 when he won the world championship, was the team's youngest player for England. At the time, his £220,000 transfer from Everton to Arsenal set a national record.Forward by John Connelly (18 July 1938 – 25 October 2012)

Connelly captured the experience of playing football in a previous period brilliantly. He transitioned from being a joiner to winning the World Cup with England before investing his retirement funds in a fish and chip shop owner. Connelly and his wife Sandra operated "Connelly's Plaice" for 31 years before selling the business in 2003.Goalkeeper Ron Springett (22 July 1935 – 12 September 2015)

Despite playing his last game right before the championship match in 1962, Springett was still selected for the team. He always carried a pocket book with the favorite penalty shootout strategies of his rivals.
