Govt launches ‘1D1F Youth Initiative’ to enable create 16k jobs in Ghana.
According to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Alan Kyeremanten, the program will enable create direct employment for 3000 youth and over 16000 indirect jobs for unemployed youth throughout the country.
During the Minister’s speech at the official launch of 1D1F Youth Initiative Prongramme on Friday in Accra , the Trade Minister point out that the 1D1F programme would enable generate sustainable jobs and also improve agricultural production to enhance the country’s economy.
He also stated that one of the challenges affecting our country is how to address those challenges with youth unemployment. The 1D1F programme will contribute to employing almost 3000 youth and over 16000 indirect jobs.
He continued by saying that, a study conducted by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) showed that, about 1.74 million representing 13.4 percent of the total working population of 13 million in the age range of 15 years and above were unemployed in the first quarter of the year. This has been major problem confronting the country.
The high level of unemployment is seen as national security threat in the country by many experts.
However, the Minister of Trade and Industry,Mr. Alan Kyeremanten said the introduction of 1D1F initiative programme will enable reduce the unemployment in the country.
He said there is a going to be a connection between the factories and the various Business Resource and Advisory Centers and Technology Solution Centers in the MMDAs for continued support to the factories.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Bamie Tahir-Ahmed from the Lambussie District in the Upper West Region stated that his team which is made up of 50 energetic young people would operate a groundnut oil-processing factory.
Mr. Tahir-Ahmed concluded by saying that the team had undergone training and capacity building in entrepreneurship and business management and ready to start operations.
