The the recent hardships that hit the Ghanaian's economy under the Nana Addo-Bawumia leadership, went so extreme; to the extent, that some Ghanaians couldn't help, but to relate it to what happened in the year 1983; a period in Ghana's history, where the country experienced its worst hardship (total food shortage ); from 1981 to 1983.
Today all over the news and on social media, we have been hearing news and reports, that the once broken Ghanaian economy; and years of hard times in the country under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, (which was blamed on the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war), is now bouncing back.
We have heard; and are still hearing the NPP members, the Finance Minister-Ken Ofori Atta and many others saying the same things we heard from them since the assumed office as government, that things are getting better, and that Ghanaians will soon see better days and happy lives. President Nana Addo; on Saturday December 24, during his Christmas message to Ghanaians, also re-echoed all that his NPP members have been telling us.
According to the President in his Christmas message, Ghana "was held in its own captivity in Babylon due to the challenges", but now he is happy we are coming out of the challenges. He said again that, “…over the last three years we have been confronted with our own captivity in Babylon moments. We had to ride turbulent storms and we were faced with the unknown. ...indeed, there were moments where we doubted our ability to surmount these challenges".
The president added that, “I am happy that in spite of it all we are beginning to emerge out of the difficulties which encourages me to say that with hard work dedication and continued prudence in the management of the affairs of our nation, we will rise up again".
President Nana Addo, after the 2016 elections; which made him president, has been known to be a Person with 'big talks' and 'do little'. After assuming office as a president, the president is still talking...making promises and assurances, just as he did during the 2016 elections campaign when he was looking for power.
For President Nana Addo to look into the suffering Ghana's eyes, and say by his hard works, we are emerging from the hardships, and that, soon he will 'take us out of Babylon' (from the current hardships); in my opinion he is 'building castle in the air'; or should i say he is 'blowing his own horns'.
President Nana Addo is known for 'building sand castles in the air' (saying too many things he know very well he cannot do); or even 'blowing his own trumpet' (to brag about his achievements and to boast about his successes), when in reality, nothing is been done to change the economy or the lives of Ghanaians..
When the entire country went 'hard and tough', we were not told; we felt it very deep in our stomachs, in our pockets and in our living conditions. As Ghanaians, just as we need no one to tell us of our sufferings, so it should be...we need no one to tell us of positive changes. we must feel the good changes in the country in our pockets, our stomachs and in our living conditions. If the Ghanaian's economy is bouncing back positively, then our living conditions MUST also start bouncing back positively. We must feel the positive changes ourselves...not through big talks.
If Nana Addo and the NPP are telling us, that things are getting better; that the economy is now bouncing...why then are we not feeling it, why are living conditions still hard, why are our pocked still dry? Or is 1+3 now =0?
When things went hard in the country and the US dollar started running like 'Usain Bolt' against the Ghana cedi; and Ghanaians started complaining, President Nana Addo looked in our faces and told us "sika Mp? Dede"...we should stop complaining or stop making noise.
Today we are also telling the President to concentrate on fixing the living conditions of Ghanaians, and stop blowing his own trumpet, because Ghana 'Mp? Dede'.
